hawaiian dreams

  • Hawaiian Dreams is a testament to the traditional Hawaiian flower necklace, the frangipani, and the beautiful rainbows that occur frequently there. The flowers in the painting emanate vibrations in every color of the rainbow. It is a beautiful, fragrant flower that symbolizes purity, positivity, and love.

    I have not been to Hawaii yet, but I dream of going there.

coming to light

  • Coming to Light is a piece dedicated to the process of illuminating your soul. I was inspired to make this piece during a time in my life when I finally began to speak my truth. This piece is a reclamation of internal power that we may have stifled or forgotten about. When we choose to live authentically, we are fearlessly showing off our true colors.

steady ground

  • A mother giraffe gives her young the nudge it needs to stand independently on its own. The giraffe here wants you to stand up tall and stretch to reach your dreams. The youth is kissed by sunlight and excited to enter the world on its own. The mother is wearing a peaceful expression of solemn gratitude that her baby is ready to make its own way. I named this piece Steady Ground as a token of gratitude for my parents who always supported me until I found my own steady ground.

rising to receive

  • Rising to Receive is a significant piece showing the bravery of a young woman who had to rise above her circumstances to receive the lifelong gift of wisdom.

    A woman stands strong in the red and blue flames of a wild fire. Her arms are outreached over her head to receive the pearl of wisdom. It is bestowed to her as a reward for her successful journey through the fire and flames. Two phoenixes rise beside her as so does her spirit.

    One phoenix is red and is rising during the day while the other phoenix is blue and rising during the night. They signify duality and balance. In order to have light there must be darkness, and vice versa. We need fire to keep us warm and we need water to quench our thirst. Both are necessary to keep us alive.

    This painting is a reminder to maintain balance as it is the natural order of life, as well as to find the silver linings in our challenges and rise above.

revamped

  • An oldie but a goodie, this piece was originally created in 2018 in my elective painting class. It started as three simple monstera leaves on a white background. In 2024, I took this piece and Revamped it to put some good vibrations in place of the plain white background.

contemplating

  • Some experiments turn out unexpectedly well. This piece was initiated without a plan and a simple desire to create.

    This painting is titled Contemplating because while in the creative flow, I had some revelations about creating just to create. I was able to think without a perfectionist’s mindset by making it undetailed and with broad strokes and unrefined finishes.

    The first layers were an acrylic wash on the canvas which were layered, wet on wet, with a dark green wash to start the horizon line. The sunset sky was made with layers of swirls and various hues of yellow, orange, pink, and fushia. The sun, clouds, and water reflections were added last with the lightest color paint.

sunset surfer

  • I painted this while sitting on the beach during sunset. It was completed in one sitting. I tried to capture the feeling of a sunset ride and how unreal it is to feel the force of the wave moving you while the sky’s fluorescent hues light up the sky.
