the difficulty of starting out as an artist.

*Cough*

*Coughs again but louder for the people in the back who keep talking*

Ahem… First thing I’ll say is I’m not starving. I don’t know that I will be, but I sure as heck won’t let myself be!

Now that that’s over with…

The difficulty of starting out as an artist is…

The doubters, the fear mongering, the loud voices telling you to play it safe; to get a 9-5 job and continue painting as a hobby and try to sell it on the side.

It is also the barriers to entry.

Who do you know? How are you going to build a name for yourself? Will anyone buy your work?

The difficulty is that when pursuing a creative interest and discovering that it is something you can do for a living, all the doubt, fear, and big questions will continue to come up again and again.

Doubt and fear serve no purpose here. Discard them and walk away from people who are trying to feed them to you.

At least the big questions can be answered. That is what I’m trying to do.

Update: we are making some progress, one step at a time.
